1958 BMW SW Isetta 300

This page is about the restoration of a 1958 BMW Isetta 300. This is a sliding window (SW) isetta. The sw style replaced the bubble window (BW) around 1957. I personally think the BW car looks nicer. However, the SW car is more practical.

There are a lot of differences between the two cars that go far beyond the layout of the windows. I hope to document the differences as I restore my two cars.

This is what the previous owner said about my SW Isetta:

"This Isetta Does Not have a transmission & motor. Rear drive OK. Known missing parts: rear brake drum, shift knob, rear window, both front turn signal covers, master brake cylinder cover missing and also the lever controls on the steering wheel (the stems are broken off switches still there). This car is very straight and free of bad rust, the battery box is there but rusty and would probably need replacement. You'll need to clean and paint the inside floor but that's it! Good bumpers on front, good bars in back. Matching Title is also included with this one. Odometer shows 13,000 miles.   The front window has cracks. The seat is a good frame with several tears in the covering. Sun roof fabric is dry rotted but hardware is present. "
