Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo
There were many attempts in the early 80's to create a turbo middleweight
with the power of an open class bike. This was the best (and last) of the production turbo
bikes.
The 750 turbo had digital fuel injection and the turbo was mounted close
to the exhaust ports in front of the engine to reduce turbo lag.
This is what the Kawasaki sales brochure said about the 1984 750 Turbo:
THE WORLD'S FASTEST PRODUCTION MOTORCYCLE.
The jury is in, and the verdict is unanimous: The Kawasaki 750turbo is
the superstar superbike. Not just the most powerful 750. The fastest production motorcycle
ever built. Pee Wee Gleason proved it by storming an unmodified turbo through the standing
quarter mile in 10.71 seconds -- on a 750. No one else evern comes close. Because nobody
else builds motorcycles like Kawasaki. ...
This is how my current '84 Turbo looks today. I bought this beauty in
'99. In '84, I bought one of these new. But, I sold it in '86 because... |

I seemd to do this far too often back in 1985. So, I quit riding bikes
for about 10 years. |

This is my original turbo in 1984. There was a gathering in Danbury CT
every weekend. A friend I rode with had the Ducati Hailwood replica. |
|
Unfortunately, my friend had a NASTY crash involving an extended
hospital stay. While he was laid up, he designed this beautiful bike from the remains of
the Hailwood replcia. Later, he quit his real job and went full time into building bikes. |

This is my original Turbo at the Indianapolis Speedway. I did a 5000
mile trip in '84 and visited friends, relatives and many interesting places. Someday i
will put some of the pictures here. |
|
There was a lot of interesting technology in the Turbo. Someday I will
put more literature here. |
