BMW has been producing bikes with "Boxer" (flat, opposed, twin) engines
since the introduction of it's first bike 1923. The BMW R1100RS was introduced in 1993,
marking BMW's 70th anniversary. BMW has been known for making small incremental changes to
it's motorcycle line over the years. The R1100RS was a major technology update. The R1100RS includes the following features (new for BMW Boxers at the time of it's introduction): · oil cooled 1100cc Boxer motor (r259) with electronic fuel injection and chain driven cams relocated to the 4-valve cylinder heads · telelever front suspension (the first BMW to include this feature) · engine and transmission are stressed frame members · optional ABS (anti-lock brakes) The good news for BMW fans is improved power, handling and reliability (most of the time ;-). The bad news is increased weight, complexity and expense. If I could have only one motorcycle, this would be the one. Unfortunately, BMW has discontinued the R1100RS in the USA. I guess the R1100RT is close enough... I added an R1100RT trunk, Corbin seat and Parabellum windshield to my 'RS
