1968 Honda CT90

When I was a kid, this is the first bike I can remember wanting to own...

The original CT90 (a.k.a. Trail 90)  had leading link forks and a four speed transmission with an automatic clutch. To improve climbing ability when running off road, the older CT90s had dual sprokets on the rear. To select lower gearing the rider manually spliced in a section of chain and switched to the larger sprocket on the rear wheel.

In 1968 Honda introduced a dual range transmission and telescopic forks on the CT90. The dual range (8 speed) transmission eliminated the need for two sprockets on the rear wheel. A lever under  the left side of the transmission   provides high and low range selection. Only a few bikes (mine included) were made with the 8 speed transsmission and old style leading link forks.
