1967 Amphicar 770

There is a lot of information about the Amphicar available through the International Amphicar Owners Club. Below are pictures of my Amphicar before and during restoration.

This is what the previous owner said about my Amphicar:

"Here is a running 1967 Amphicar. These cars have recently sold for $18,000 + (Kruse labor day auction, and ebay). This original white car was repainted 10 years ago and lower rear quarters could use minor body work along with front edge of hood. Floor is SOLID. Motor runs and props turn forward and reverse. Brakes need work. Car needs a new top. Car is complete with all parts. Lights work, blowers and fans work. Huge file of past paperwork and good title. 17,000 miles. Car cannot be driven as brakes do not work and car needs maintainence due to storage the past 2-3 years. Very few of the original 3046 cars are left. Parts available from the west coast. "

Amphicar before restoration...

Amphi arrives at my house...

First Run... There is a big rusty hole where the battery box goes. New tires, wheels were powder coated, carb rebuilt and brakes rebuilt. The driver's door is off because it was previously damaged while rolling the car around without brakes. The temporary "interior" consists of a sheet of plywood siding and a concrete block. It was fun driving around the yard. Woo hoo!!!

Amphi loaded for the trip to the body shop... and the arrival.

FRIENDLY WARNING!

These guys really messed up the car. I lost a lot of money in the process and the car was in far worse condition than when I started.  As a result, I will be redoing all the body work myself and fixing other things they damaged. I made the mistake of trusting them based upon the recomendation of one club member. I hope this message will help someone else new to the auto-restoration hobby avoid a similarly painful experience.

This is my amphi in the early 70's...

This isn't my amphi. But, this is what amphi is supposed to look like (mostly)...
